August 2nd, 2025 – AREDN at CVARC HAMFest

Our August meeting was a little different. We were out at the Linn County Fairgrounds for CVARC’s HAMFest.

I, KD0CGN, ran the table and tried my best to explain AREDN and what we were doing with it in the Cedar Rapids area. Had a full display set up – 2 PCs, 2 Phones, Rocket with a 13 dbi omni antenna at the table. Outside we had 2 more Rockets setup to help get me a path to the race track for a camera of the balloon and model rocket launches. Sadly I didn’t get my node at the track setup in time to capture any of this. I cried a little. I have a plan in place to fix this next year!

Back inside, I had my TP-Link CPE 510 set up by the IEEE table whom had a projector displaying on the wall. I was able to get a NVR program setup on my Raspberry Pi 5 and had the web server interface on the IEEE screen showing a camera view of the flea market space, a camera outside showing the track where the balloon and model rocket launches were to take place, and for a little bit I was able to get NM5PB’s EOC Office camera since W0GSK loaned me his cellular modem for the weekend.

Passed out over 65 little “tickets” inviting people to join us at the EOC for our September meeting.

I / We must’ve done something good enough at HAMFest, my mug shot trying to get the track node set up made the September Bandspread cover!

Happy AREDNing Nerds, KD0CGN.
