About AREDN™ and Eastern Iowa Emergency Data Network (EIEDN)
The Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN™) provides a way for Amateur Radio operators to create high-speed, ad hoc data networks for use in emergency and service-oriented communications. By leveraging this technology, operators can establish resilient communication links when traditional systems fail.
The Eastern Iowa Emergency Data Network (EIEDN) was established in Linn County, IA, with the goal of creating a robust communication link between counties across Eastern Iowa. The ultimate vision is to connect emergency data networks throughout Iowa and into neighboring states, strengthening disaster response and coordination.
EIEDN began in late 2023 and saw rapid progress throughout 2024, with key members quickly mastering the necessary software and acquiring essential equipment. These dedicated members developed valuable expertise with each piece of technology, enabling them to provide critical guidance and support to newcomers in the AREDN™ community.
The Cedar Valley Amateur Radio Club has a long-standing commitment to community service and emergency preparedness. This latest project underscores their dedication to leveraging amateur radio technology to support public safety efforts.
